Principal Structures

The site consists of a series of joint architectural ceremonial and residential, some of whom may have functioned as neighborhoods or family gatherings at a high level. Currently, the tour begins in the Residential Complex associated with the Acropolis, which can be seen an interesting set of residential buildings equipped with sidewalks, and various niche items associated with everyday life.

While recent discoveries made in the Joint Ya'axná have changed the idea that until recently was on the early occupation of Kohunlich, it must be said that the building of greater significance and symbolic ritual is, of course, the Temple of Mascarones , which was discussed above, within the group of structures of high rank, must also be included at the Plaza of the stelae (the Palace of stelae, The Gradería and King), the interior of which was possibly carrying activities public or administrative. The Acropolis, one of the great sets of the site, belongs equally to residential buildings at a high level.

Of lesser rank, but not declining interest may be of administrative function, are buildings of the Plaza Merwin, which can be seen some excellent examples of the architectural style of the site itself. Even easier are the platforms or "track" of all residential located west of the Plaza Merwin, the large amount of waste height recovered during the excavation of these buildings, suggests that its inhabitants were artisans dedicated to the manufacture of flint tools.

At Kohunlich have also dug a number of residential buildings, which would have been occupied by the ruling elite Site, the most important are those relating to the joint known as the 27 Steps and Pixa'an, the last of which is still in the process of exploration. Both had dug a complex system of palaces and residential structures, inside of which were buried several high-ranking personages.

Along the route, visitors to the site can therefore know a complete city, which is also possible to observe a complex system of channeling rainwater into the water, seeming artificial construction. The visit to the various structures permits also recognize the development of architectural styles on the site, from the "apron moldings in" Temple of Peten kind of Mascarones up columns embedded in the walls that resemble those of the neighboring region Rio Bec and can be seen in a number of buildings. The uniqueness of structures like the Acropolis, with its various stages constructive, and the finished masonry technique of the palaces, hallmarks of Kohunlich, which complement the architectural recount can be done here.
